Recording and Rehearsal Studios

Recording and Rehearsal Studios

It always gives me a sense of satisfaction when my guitar students start writing their own material: it shows artistic progression and a sense of confidence in a player’s own ability. The next step is to get in the recording studio, which can be a daunting prospect for first time artists. To give guitar players in Barnsley a little bit of guidance, here are the three best recording studios in the area.

DC Studio is located at 36b Shambles Street, Barnsley, S70 2SH and mostly caters for the local music and arts scene: lots of local artists and groups have recorded and rehearsed here. Local bands such as Words Become Waves, The Harringtons and Mad Dogs and Englishmen are all regular frequenters of DC. In light of their local-focus, recording prices are very reasonable here: only £20/hour for recording and £8.50/hour for rehearsals. Possibly the best thing about DC, however, is the music video service, which they provide by collaborating with Arcadia Film: for only £420 you get a professional quality music video plus a fully mixed and mastered single! A bargain in our view!

Studio Barnsley offers everything that you’d expect from a professional recording studio: recording, mastering, mixing, production and even an in-house songwriter. This might be the studio for you if you’ve got a lot of ideas but aren’t sure how to put an entire song together: Studio Barnsley’s song-writer can help you organize your ideas and work out a coherent structure. At £25/hour, this studio is a bit pricier than other recording studios in Barnsley, but having worked with loads of local artists (and even some children), you can guarantee that they can handle almost anything that you throw at them. If you want to check it out for yourself, head down to The Studio, Mapplewell, Barnsley S75 5QF.

The Take 2 Centre experience revolves around enjoying your time recording. They have a bar and a bistro located in-house, so you can kickback, relax and enjoy a meal. The other notable thing about the Take 2 Centre is that they’ve got a 180-seat capacity theatre: this is obviously great for large choirs or live recordings where an audience is required. If this studio seems like your sort of thing, it is located at 311 Sheffield Road, Birdwell, S70 5TU.
