Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you teach beginners?

Absolutely, I have taught many beginner students over the years, helping them to get to grips with the basic aspects of playing the guitar before enabling them to progress to playing the songs that they are passionate about.

Do you teach children?

Yes! I have taught many children over the years, I would advise not starting your child with guitar lessons until they are 6 years old. This is mainly due to their ability to fret the notes which requires quite a lot of finger strength. For more information don't hesitate to get in touch.

Where do the lessons take place?

I am a mobile guitar teacher so I am able to teach you in the comfort of your own home if you live in the Barnsley area. No need to worry about being stuck in traffic jams as I will travel to you - for more information simply get in touch.

Do you do both electric and acoustic guitar lessons?

I teach both electric and acoustic guitar lessons, catering to the style of music that the students likes best and building a course of lessons around that. When you get to a stage of buying your own guitar I would be delighted to help you to chose a suitable instrument and recommend a good guitar shop in Barnsley. You can read more about them in our article about Music Shops in Barnsley.

What do we learn in our lessons?

Well, that is completely determined by you, the student. As a beginner, we will look at the basic aspects of learning the guitar (chords, simply lead riffs, using a plectrum and strum patterns) in combination with the style of music that you like. As you begin to grasp these core aspects of guitar we will start to explore more of the songs in the genre of music that you are passionate about. I always strive to ensure that my students learn to play the guitar by learning the songs that they love.

Can I do grades?

You are more than welcome to, though it certainly isn't compulsory. I have found grades to provide a great structure for students to really get to grips with aspects of guitar they perhaps would shy away from (scales, arpeggios, listening exercises) improving their overall musicianship. Nonetheless, many of my students simply learn guitar for fun, as a hobby or simply to relax and grades wouldn't be suitable or of interest for these students.

What happens if I need to cancel a lesson?

That is no problem at all if you could let me know as soon as possible I will be able to reallocate that lesson space to another student. Please do note that if the lesson is cancelled within 48 hours of our arranged lesson time you will be charged the full lesson fee, no exceptions.

Can I record my own music material?

Absolutely, there are many good recording studios in Barnsley. Feel free to ask my recommendations and check out our article about Recording and Rehearsal Studios.
